The responses received in a recent IDC survey regarding corporate IT security give rise to serious concerns about the pace at which enterprises are responding (or are able to respond) to the growing security threat to the endpoints of their IT infrastructure. In particular, the responses show that enterprises appear to be falling behind in the following areas: HIPS usage, layered protection, mobility security.

Like all security technologies, endpoint security has to respond to an ever-changing and increasingly aggressive threat environment. Due to the need to respond to these threats, IDC believes that endpoint security solutions will not become a commodity that can be swapped in and out. Instead, customers will need to continuously assess which product(s) meet their existing and future security needs. Given the results of the survey, IDC recommends that all enterprises should make such an assessment a priority.
The information gathered in the survey, plus supportive information from IDC's continuous research, is contained in this paper sponsored by LanDesk. The responses give rise to some serious concerns about the potential for complacency in European enterprises with regard to the increasingly vigorous, sophisticated and malicious threats posed to their IT capabilities and intellectual property.
