GrIDsure links with partners to promote pictorial PIN replacement

GrIDsure, a company that has developed a simple, but secure, pictorial
replacement for PIN-based authentication, was at the Infosecurity
Europe show in London this week, announcing a number of partnerships
to promote its technology into new areas.

Partnerships with Ascentia, the electronic identity assurance
specialist, and Masabi, the secure mobile telecoms developer, were
announced.

Jonathan Craymer, GrIDsure's chairman, said that the deals will help
the company in developing its secure authentication technology into
new markets and so seek new customers.

Craymer told Infosecurity Magazine that, with the support of its
partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers, GrIDsure's technology has now moved
off the drawing board and firmly into the real world of secure
applications software.

Ben Whitaker, Masabi's founder, said that the development of GrIDsure
software for mobile phones allows Web site operators to securely
authenticate their users logging in across the Internet.

"The important thing to realise with our software is that, even if the
user loses his/her mobile phone, the thief cannot access their Web
accounts using the GrIDsure system, as they do not know their picture
pattern. This makes the use of a mobile phone as an authentication
devices doubly secure," he explained.

In parallel with its partnerships, GrIDsure has been named a "cool
vendor' by Gartner in its latest application security and
authentication report.

The naming puts the company in the top five as far as application
security is concerned, something that Craymer say is humbling, given
the fact that the other four firms listed in the report are at the
cutting edge of their respective industries.

GrIDsure's next step, he said, is to foster a licensing relationship
with a major customer and so act as a proving ground for the company's
breakthrough authentication technology,
