Google releases security updates for Chrome browser

20 August 2010

The latest security update from Google includes 10 patches for its Chrome web browser, as the company pays out more than $10 000 to the handful of researchers who discovered the bugs.

The Chrome security updates include patches for two vulnerabilities Google has classified as ‘critical’, in addition to two workarounds – one for a security issue in an external component, and the other for a Windows kernel bug.

There were 10 patches in all for the new release – Chrome 5.0.375.127 – with most being flagged as having high importance. The updates were announced Thursday on the Google Chrome Update blog by Chrome team member Jason Kersey.

Also included in the posting was a list of bounties paid out to several researchers who reported the bugs to Google, as the company shelled out more than $10 000 through its bounty program.

The security updates affect Chrome running on Windows, Mac, and Linux systems.
