LANDesk to be acquired by private equity firm

24 August 2010

Endpoint security provider LANDesk has announced plans to be purchased from its parent company by Thoma Bravo, a private equity firm.

Yesterday, Salt Lake City-based LANDesk announced that it will be purchased from its parent company, Emerson (St. Louis), by private equity firm Thoma Bravo.

Details provided by the parties are scant at this point, except that Steve Daly, current executive VP and GM of LANDesk, will become CEO of an independent LANDesk upon completion of the transaction. LANDesk currently has about 750 employees according to figures released by the company.

LANDesk is a provider of endpoint security solutions and IT management services, including security management of servers, mobile devices, and laptops. For its part, Thoma Bravo focuses on – although not exclusively – consolidation of software services, where the company has made more than 50 software-related acquisitions over its 29-year history.

“There are about five hundred million PCs or laptops in the corporate environment today, with five billion IP connected devices. Estimates indicate there will be fifty billion IP connected devices in the world by 2020”, Daly said in a press release statement. “With the assistance of Thoma Bravo, we will remain the leader in IT management and continue to focus on helping our customers manage and secure their systems, regardless of device type, platform or location."

The parties expect the transaction to close by late September; financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
