But there is to be no change to the company's privacy practices, Mike Yang, Google associate general counsel wrote in a blog post.
Most privacy policies are too hard to understand, said Yang, and for that reason Google plans to remove 12 of the product-specific policies to avoid duplication.
"Since contacts are shared between services like Gmail, Talk, Calendar and Docs, it makes sense for those services to be governed by one privacy policy", he said.
Google is also simplifying its main privacy policy by removing all unnecessary passages and rewriting the legal jargon in language that is easier to understand.
Yang said Google plans to add more content to some product help centres to support users in finding information about protecting their privacy more easily.
Google's most popular privacy tools are to be consolidated into a new privacy tools page in the Google Privacy Center.
The new Google Privacy Policy is to go into effect on 3 October, said Yang.
