A Pentagon spokesman told Reuters its team is unsure when the documents will be released but believed it can speed up assessment of the documents having already reviewed the Iraq war file.
"It is the same team we put together after the publication of the [Afghan war documents]", Pentagon spokesman, colonel Dave Lapan, told Reuters.
US defence secretary, Robert Gates, the leak had not revealed any "sensitive intelligence sources or methods", but could endanger Afghans who helped the US, Reuters reported.
Run from Sweden, Wikileaks previously published 77 000 US military documents on the war in Afghanistan and is expected to release almost 400 000 new documents in the coming weeks.
Wikileaks founder and Australian citizen, Julian Assange, may face prosecution from Australia if further US military documents released by the whistleblower site threaten serving forces' safety, said Australia's attorney-general Robert McClelland last month.
