Unlike Microsoft, there is no need for a regular `Patch Tuesday' monthly approach, but the software company behind several popular packages says it will move to a regular quarterly update model for its security patches.

In a blog posting, Brad Arkin, Adobe's director of product security and privacy says that, although the company issue updates on 10 March and 12 May, their frequency was coincidental.

In both cases, we shipped the patches as soon as we finished testing them, he says.

Infosecurity notes that, in March of this year, Adobe released a patch that fixed a critical vulnerability in Adobe Reader 9 and Acrobat 9 that could - under certain conditions - have allowed an attacker to gain complete control of a victim's PC.

According to Arkin, this particular security problem led to his firm's decision to implement scheduled security updates.
