GT Media releases multi-feature Android tracking/security app

The Dallas-based firm said that the app – which is available through the official Android Market and the Amazon app market – allows users to track and secure their lost or stolen device anywhere in the world using the seekdroid.com portal. Users can, said the company, see the device on a map, set off an audible alarm, wipe the device and much more,

Interestingly, the firm said that SeekDroid works invisibly, never running in the background, using no battery power, and remaining undetectable by thieves until called it into action.

And if the device is stolen, SeekDroid gives the power to create a new screen lock code, rendering the device useless to a thief. Users can access their phone remotely whether there is a SIM card in the phone or not, and can even see the mobile phone number of the 'new owner' if it is replaced.

The software even allows users to check the handset their missed calls, which GT Media said means users' lives are not put on hold while they work to retrieve their phone. The app also allows to lock the device or wipe all of the information, keeping it from falling into the wrong hands.

Infosecurity notes that SeekDroid isn't the first multi-functional app that tracks and secures an Android device, but it appears to be one of the first to charge a one-time fee and no subscription to maintain tracking facilities.
