Azerbaijan or bust: 30% growth expected in infosec market

In 2011, the country’s information security market was flat, after growing 200% in 2010, said Thomas Vendrih, Lumension director for Eastern Europe and Scandinavia.

The reason Vendrih is predicting growth next year is that large companies will need to ensure the availability of automatic updating and downloading of patches.

To fill the demand for antivirus software in the country, Trend Micro is planning to enter the Azeri market to compete with the likes of Russian firms Kaspersky Lab and Dr. Web.

"The Azerbaijani market is quite large. The gaps in this segment open up great possibilities to develop the market and the producers. In particular, such Russian manufacturers as Kaspersky Lab and Dr. Web are involved in this market due to the close territorial proximity to Azerbaijan", said Bulent Dogru, IT manager for Trend Micro distributor Helyum Bilisim Hizmetleri.

Dogru boldly predicted that Trend Micro could secure half of the market for antivirus product sales. "We plan to hold regular training and workshops with similar events taking place in Azerbaijani higher education institutions”, he added.
