Chariots on Fire for White Hat Rally

The White Hat Rally is calling for all information security professionals and motor sport enthusiasts to sign up for its fourth annual driving adventure that takes place 22-24 of June. This year, to mark the 2012 London Olympics, each team will represent a different country of their choice - complete with fancy dress - in aid of children’s charity Barnardo’s. Starting in Market Harborough and winding through the scenic countryside, teams will drive their ‘Chariots on Fire’ up through Lincolnshire before finally ending in Buckinghamshire.

The White Hat Rally brings together teams from across the information security industry for a weekend of fun and fundraising, driving through some of England’s finest market towns and historic cities as they chase dreams of glory in a series of Olympic themed challenges. This year’s participants will loop across the rolling hills of the East Midlands and surrounding area with clay vales and open plateaus, chalk ridges, deep combes, river valleys and marsh lands.

“Last year, the White Hat Rally ‘Carry on Driving’ event raised an impressive £38,548 for the NSPCC’s ChildLine Service”, said Martin Law at White Hat Rally. “This year we aim to build on this success to raise even more to support the fantastic work that Barnardo’s does for young people. We can’t guarantee the weather, but we can guarantee one of the best weekends imaginable.”

Teams are able to check in and make final preparations from the eve of Thursday 21st June and the event ends on Sunday 24th June with a final dinner and an ‘Olympic closing ceremony’ complete with medal presentations.

Twelve teams are already on board; including Acumin, Pentura, Blacks Solicitors and Company85. White Hat Rally has a stand at CRESTcon 2012, the 3rd Annual Conference for the professional body representing the technical information security industry, to help sign up more. To avoid missing out on the Olympic country of their choice, teams can also register or find out more by visiting www.whitehatrally.org. Entries close on 11th May.

White Hat Events started 6 years ago when a group of security and risk professionals came together to raise money for charity. Until fairly recently this was largely through organising an annual White Hat Ball. In 2012 this raised £112k for NSPCC ChildLine. Fund raising activities have expanded to include: White Hat London Marathon team; White Hat Car Rally and White Hat golf.
