New iOS jailbreak expected next week

16 May 2012

This year’s Hack-in-the-Box Netherlands security conference takes place next week at the Okura Hotel in Amsterdam, and will be the first ever week-long HITB event. A new iOS jailbreak is expected.

Guesting on IOActive’s blog, the HITB team has produced a detailed commentary on next week’s HITB security conference. It introduces the keynotes and their speakers, such as Bruce Schneier, CISO at BT Counterpane, talking about ‘Trust, Security and Society’; and Andy Ellis, CSO at Akamai, discussing the evolution of Akamai’s security program.

“But one of the indisputable highlights,” it says, will be the attendance of the iOS jailbreak ‘Dream Team’. Rumors that a new jailbreak will be released have been gathering pace since the Chronic Dev team tweeted, “Ready for some jailbreak goodness? We are :) #HITB2012AMS registrations close soon..” on Monday afternoon. ‘Hacker’ pod2g wrote in his blog, “It's like something big's going to happen at HITB related to jailbreaking.”

Yesterday, he added a list of tested devices ‘for the upcoming 5.1.1 jailbreak.’ http://pod2g-ios.blogspot.fr/ “Here is the list of devices that are known to work for sure,” he wrote, specifying the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad 1, iPad 2 Wifi and iPad 3 Wifi.

The IOActive blog does nothing to dampen expectation: “[The Dream Team] will be rocking Amsterdam with three talks (and maybe a new jailbreak?), two of which will primarily focus on the detailed inner workings behind the Corona (A4) and Absinthe (A5) jailbreaks.”

Slack Alice's Opinion:
So, to borrow a phrase now common elsewhere: expect a jailbreak, next week, in Amsterdam.
