BeyondTrust purchases Windows system management specialist

13 December 2012

Access management specialist BeyondTrust, headquartered in Carlsbad, California, has acquired Blackbird Group to bolster its product portfolio.

“With this addition, BeyondTrust furthers its vision to simplify IT security operations management, while providing customers much-needed context to improve decision-making to protect against both internal and external security threats”, the company said in a statement.

Blackbird Group, a privately held company that focuses on automation for Microsoft Windows deployments, is based out of New York.

BeyondTrust said it will use Blackbird’s Windows system management product line “to drive additional context and awareness round Active Directory and infrastructure components by offering real-time auditing capabilities” for all categories of an organization’s users. This, the company hopes, will accelerate compliance reporting and allow customers to have real-time visibility over user access and auditing.

“I understand the importance Active Directory plays within the enterprise,” said Kevin Hickey, president and chief operating officer at BeyondTrust. “In today’s dynamic IT infrastructure, organizations have to make fundamental shifts in how they manage both identity and security. We’re excited to continue the development of Blackbird’s product line and provide a solid, seamless integrated management approach to Windows infrastructure.”

Earlier this year, BeyondTrust purchased eEye Digital Security, a developer of vulnerability management tools

Terms of the deal for Blackbird Group were not provided.
