According to the IT security specialist, the ExpressCard is the first of its kind in the world and will sell in 16 and 32 gigabyte versions.

The solid state drive card can be inserted completely into the notebook's internal ExpressCard slot and, as a security precaution, auto-deletes the data after 10 incorrect password entries, Verbatim said.

Users also have the option of assigning guest passwords for use with the solid state drive, meaning that some - but not all - files can be accessed by third parties as and when required.

Announcing the solid state drive card, Hans-Christoph Kaiser, Verbatim's business development manager, said that the solid state drive market has been growing steadily in recent months.

"Our aim is to address the rapidly growing demand for secure portable storage solutions coupled with innovative products that come with the security aspect already integrated", he said, adding that the card is fully Windows XP and Vista compliant.
