F-Secure enhances online PC health check to v2.0

25 November 2009

F-Secure has upgraded its popular online malware and security protection checking facility for PCs, adding several new features to check whether a PC can surf the Net safely and securely, as well as advising security-aware users on what to do if their machine fails any aspect of the test.

Secure Health Check 2.0 is said to help users pin-point any malware and security problems and the online service now also verifies whether the PC's files are being safely backed up by an automatic backup solution, F-Secure said.

Mika Stehlberg, vice president of F-Secure Labs, said the major update to the online security service checks the status of security solutions running on the computer.

"More than one million people have already used the free tool and our data shows that a third of its users either haven't installed an antivirus, firewall or antispyware, they are outdated or turned off", he said.

"Out-of-date or non-existent security software leave users wide open to malicious software and exploits", he added.

Now including support for the new Windows 7 operating system, the online security health check - which works by probing the users' PC - is billed as checking whether the Windows operating system, third party software and web browsing applications are all as up to date as possible.
