In parallel with the release of PURE, Kaspersky will also be launching a new version of its mobile phone security software, Kaspersky Mobile Security 9, at the show.

Although Kaspersky isn't saying what PURE is or how it operates, informed sources have told Infosecurity the software – which is being beta tested by a small number of users – is essentially the firm's Internet Security suite with the addition of several features.

These features include a backup utility, a PC hard drive wipe/delete function, a password manager and an encryption module.

Other facilities in the software – which is expected to go on retail sale this spring – include a PC optimiser and a control centre, which allows users to remotely manage other computers on their home/small office network.

Mobile Security 9, meanwhile, is billed as major step forward in mobile phone security and is designed to afford similar levels of protection to a smartphone as a regular PC, with defence against network attacks, malware and phone-based spam.

The software includes a suite of tools that safeguard any personal information on a missing device by allowing the owner to locate the phone via GPS and remotely block/wipe their data, even if the SIM has been changed.

The package includes a new privacy protection feature that allows users to hide information about any contacts they want to keep confidential.

Eugene Kaspersky, Kaspersky Labs' CEO, said the aim of his firm's new offerings is to allow users to stay one step ahead of the cybercriminals, protecting users with Kaspersky's technologies, solutions and expertise.

"Cyberthreats have become so widespread that they can be described as `digital pollution' which has seeped into all areas of the digital environment and is a real threat to those digital assets that we value" he said.

"Kaspersky PURE incorporates a unique package of state-of-the-art technologies, offering reliable protection from digital pollution of all types", he added.
