Description:
Are your network security defences up to the job? Networks face increasing threats both from inside the organisation and from
the Internet. Conventional perimeter defences can miss insider threats, as well as zero-day attacks. Another approach is needed. Unlike signature-based technologies, Network Behaviour Analysis (NBA) solutions leverage the existing network infrastructure to deliver total network visibility, ensuring network security, performance and availability. This flow-based approach combines network performance monitoring with behaviour-based anomaly detection to cost effectively secure and optimise network operations.

This Webinar will:

  • Define flow-based anomaly detection and network performance monitoring, and
demonstrate how organisations are using this approach to cost effectively secure
and monitor their internal networks while leveraging the existing infrastructure
  • Describe what Network Behaviour Analysis (NBA) is and compare how NBA solutions
provide network visibility and security across the enterprise versus traditional
    signature IDS/IPS technologies
  • Provide expert views from a noted security analyst on how organisations can
leverage existing network infrastructures and gain significant economic benefit
from an NBA approach to securing and monitoring enterprise networks
  • Explore Siemens/BBC case study to provide insight into real-life deployment of
    an effective NBA solution

Matt Gordon-Smith
CISSP MBCS CITP AInstISP
Senior Consultant Insight Consulting Siemens Enterprise Communications Limited

Matt Gordon-Smith is a Senior Consultant with Siemens Insight Consulting, leading the Security Architecture & Design team. Matt has an honours Bachelors degree in Information & Computer Science and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). Matt started his career in IBM, initially as a Network Architect. His interest insecurity started early on, as he designed and implemented network and firewall solutions. He became acutely aware of the issues surrounding security perimeters and the importance of access control and logical and physical network separation between networks of differing trust. Matt’s work as network custodian, responsible for the configuration management, user controls and patch management of network devices also gave him a firm grasp of these important security elements.

Matt soon moved within IBM from this role to a position as a Security Architect, using the security knowledge developed in his previous role and specialising in the implementation and management of security around networks. This role allowed him to explore the greater realms of security and to develop knowledge in the other security domains. Matt’s work as a Security Architect has taken him to different business sectors and has involved creating solutions from small requirements up to enterprise architectures.
