Known as Internet Security Complete, the software from Webroot integrates cloud-based threat protection with ID management facilities and secure access to personal files plus passwords.
Mike Kronenberg, Webroot's CTO, said that security and privacy on the web are becoming more complex as users perform more personal transactions online, from an expanding number of locations and devices.
"At the same time, Webroot is seeing more than 40 000 new threats emerge every day. Traditional desktop security alone can't protect consumers in today's threat landscape", he said.
"Webroot Internet Security Complete addresses these critical issues by delivering unparalleled Web-based protection that protects the person rather than the PC", he added.
Commenting on the software, Charles Kolodgy, IDC's research vice president for security products, said that, for consumers, Security as a Service (SaaS) is the future of security.
"With consumers facing increasingly sophisticated attacks spawned by malware from legitimate websites, a comprehensive approach is needed that provides quick defence against new threats", he said.
"As worldwide cybercrime increases, SaaS potentially provides Internet users with comprehensive, near real-time protection across applications and Web activities", he added.
According to Kolodgy, Webroot addresses this need with its new software, as it allows the transfer of important files between computers and other devices, meaning that users can access data and applications from anywhere, without compromising security.
