Last week, Adobe shipped 13 patches to plug critical holes in Shockwave, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Flash Professional. However, only the fixes for Shockwave were free; the other fixes required users to purchase an upgrade to CS6 versions.
This week, Adobe reversed itself and announced it would offer free security fixes for the CS5 versions of Illustrator, Photoshop, and Flash Professionals when they are ready.
“We are in the process of resolving the vulnerabilities addressed in these Security Bulletins in Adobe Illustrator CS5.x, Adobe Photoshop CS5.x (12.x) and Adobe Flash Professional CS5.x, and will update the respective Security Bulletins once the patches are available”, Adobe said in an update to its previously issued security bulletins.
Commenting on Adobe's reversal, Intego’s Mac Security Blog said: “It’s a good thing they changed their approach. What they were doing is a very bad precedent; users who cannot upgrade still need to be protected from security threats.”
