Avast acquires Android software vendor ITAgents

ITAgents is perhaps best known for its Theft Aware app for the Android and Symbian platforms, offering text-based remote control and lost-device security features.

As both firms are privately-held, no financial details of the acquisition have been released.

ITAgents was founded by 2004 by Reinhard Holzner and has Karl Prinz as a partner. Based in Linz, the Austrian firm develops its own range of smartphone security software, as well as designing software for third-party smartphone and tablet application companies. Its core markets are Austria, Germany and the US.

In a blog posting, Holzner said the acquisition is a big step for this company and not only values the efforts he and his team have put into the company, but also ensures that Theft Aware will be able to further grow both in functionality and market presence. “And - as you could maybe imagine - we'll now be able to put a lot more tech and features to Theft Aware than you're already used to”, he said.

“Now, you'll ask - what happens to the team? What happens to the existing customers? Rest assured, myself and my colleagues will stay with Avast and will further develop our anti-theft solution. And if you are our customer already, we are very happy to take you with us on this exciting journey. We will stay with you”, he added.
