Blue Coat launches product for small businesses

Nigel Hawthorn, the firm's EMEA marketing vice president, told Infosecurity that the appliance fills a new area of the market that is now looking for a simple appliance to meet its needs.

Hawthorn said that reseller margins on ProxyOne would match those of its enterprise offering, Proxy SG, allowing dealers to supply and fully support the product in the marketplace.

To assist resellers in this regard, Blue Coat is offering a 30-day try-and-buy programme for clients, allowing it to compete with its rivals in this space, who include Bloxx, IronPort and Websense, Infosecurity notes.

Annual licenses for ProxyOne will start at around £2500 for 100 users, giving smaller firms access to what Blue Coat describes as the same enterprise-class web security used by 88% of Fortune 500 companies in the marketplace.

According to Blue Coat, last year saw 70% of small and medium-sized businesses were using social media tools.

As a result, Blue Coat says that traditional network security solutions adopted by these businesses, such as firewalls and desktop anti-virus software, cannot keep pace with these increasingly sophisticated web-based threats.

Instead, comprehensive protection requires the use of a web security defence to complement these traditional security defences.

Features of ProxyOne are billed as including real-time defences, and high levels of security without compromising performance.
