Bomgar introduces remote support product for Android smartphones and tablets

According to the High Wycombe-based company, the new product complements the existing remote support apps available for Apple iPhones and iPads, and allow IT support staff to securely chat with - as well as transfer files to and from - the Android device.

In addition, says the firm, the product allows remote support staff to view the system status and information on the Android device.

Citing research from IDC that claims to show that Android will take over from Apple's iOS as the smartphone operating system of choice amongst users later this year, Bomgar says that the new app makes it a lot easier for IT professionals to securely configure and support these Android devices.

Troy Harrison, Bomgar's vice president, said that today's members of staff and customers want to use their smartphones and tablets of their own choosing to conduct business.

This, he explained, challenges IT teams to support an ever-increasing variety of mobile devices and platforms.

"Providing the ability to support almost any type of mobile device, including Android, from a single remote support solution is part of Bomgar's continuing commitment to offer the most robust multi-platform solutions for remote support.

Bomgar says its Android client will be available as an apk with Bomgar 11.1, which will be released this summer.

The firm has posted a YouTube video showing the product in action.
