Demand for information security professionals predicted to grow for rest of 2011

The demand is expected to be fueled by requirements for risk assessment skills for both applications and infrastructure, as well as Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI-DSS) compliance skills.

Professionals focusing on network security in the contract market should benefit from an increase in demand for services to counter hacking attacks, according to Barclay Simpson.

Salarie increases for information security professionals changing employers rose to 13% in the first half of 2011, up from 11% in 2010.

Barclay Simpson said that the information security recruitment market is currently experiencing patterns of supply and demand similar to those that existed prior to the recession.

Demand has broadened from the banking sector last year to a range of end users and consultancies this year. The increase in high-profile attacks has resulted in information security being a hot topic for corporations, Barclay Simpson said.

“Having started with the retail banks, the information security recruitment market recovered during the course of 2010. By the end of the year all sectors, outside of the public sector, were experiencing demand similar to pre-recessionary levels”, the company said.
