Democratic senators appeal to tech giants for support on cybersecurity bill

Sens. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) and Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), who are sponsors of the Cybersecurity Act, sent letters to high-tech chief executive officers urging them to actively support passage of the bill, according to a report by The Hill newspaper.

"Where [industry] experts in the field expressed concerns, we have tried to address them and make changes. Now that this legislation will soon be considered on the Senate floor, we ask for your strong support", the senators wrote.

The letters were sent to the heads of Facebook, Google, Amazon, Apple, Xerox, EMC, Symantec, Comcast, Sprint, Verizon Communications, AT&T, IBM, Yahoo, Intel, Dell, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Oracle, Cisco, LinkedIn, and the tech trade association Silicon Valley Leadership Group.

A Senate vote on the Cybersecurity Act is expected on Monday, July 30, according to an aide to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).
