ESET releases beta version of Symbian/Windows Mobile-driven smartphone security

ESETsays that the beta test version of Mobile Security Business Edition is available in several languages, including English, Czech, Slovak, German, Spanish, French, Turkish, Polish, Russian, Chinese Traditional and Chinese Simplified.

The move puts ESET in the interesting position of being one of the first IT security vendors to support the blossoming Windows Mobile platform, which is expected to be seen on a range of tablet computers and larger form factor smartphones, judging from prototypes shown at CES 2011 in Las Vegas earlier this month.

Features of the Symbian/Windows Mobile edition of ESET's software include on-access and on-demand scans, as well as security audit and firewall setting adjustments on-the-fly.

The firm says that its software also features spam filter logs and the ability to schedule connection intervals according to preference.

In addition, admins can gather and change the configuration of the mobile client, send a message via ERA 4 Console and update the virus database remotely if needed.

There are also, Infosecurity notes, anti-theft, remote data wipe and SIM matching facilities within the software.
