F-Secure extends security platform to Google Android

According to F-Secure, cellcos can now offer IT security software and service on the Android platform, adding to the existing service for Symbian and Windows smartphones.

F-Secure says that its Mobile Security 6 platform and software protects against malware and safeguards confidential data on consumer and business smartphones, even if the phone is lost or stolen.

Patrik Sallner, vice president of F-Secure's mobile business unit, said that today's smartphones are designed for surfing the web and financial transactions like online banking and shopping. "In our recent survey, we found that over a third of users surf the web with their smartphones and just over 10% use them for online banking", he said.

The platform's browsing protection, says F-Secure, make internet use and mobile financial transactions safer than ever for smartphone users.

The anti-theft feature makes it possible to remotely lock the phone or erase the data on the phone if it is lost or stolen.

According to F-Secure, the feature can also inform users of the new number if the SIM card is changed, as well as showing users the location of the mobile, allowing users to report its location to the authorities or take other action as appropriate.
