Iranian Cyber Army turns Voice of America into pro-Iranian propaganda service

VOA said that the hackers redirected traffic from numerous websites, including the VOA’s main website, voanews.com. Instead of the VOA’s website, visitors were greeted with an Iranian flag, an AK-47 assault weapon, words in Arabic, a banner that read “We have proven that we can,” and a message to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton telling the US to “stop interfering with Islamic countries.”

A VOA report quoted cybersecurity expert Jeffrey Carr as saying: "There are a few hacker crews operating out of Iran that do have allegiances or ties with the Iranian government. The Iranian Cyber Army is one of them. They have a good skills set. These are not script kiddies.”

The official Fars News Agency praised the attackers. "The move came in response to the false reports released by the VOA and other websites on the spread and progress of seditious moves in Iran", Fars said in a statement cited by Fox Business News. “VOA and its affiliates have long been supporting anti-Islamic Republic groups and sought to provoke unrests [sic] in Iran”, the statement added.
