McAfee announced its intent to purchase the privately held Portsmouth, N.H., firm today and said it plans on folding NitroSecurity’s SIEM technology into its current security offerings. According to a company statement on the move, McAfee hopes to expand its capabilities in risk and compliance, in addition to threat intelligence.
"McAfee is focused on keeping its customers safe with optimized security and risk management solutions," said Stuart McClure, general manager and senior VP of McAfee’s Risk and Compliance unit. "With NitroSecurity's technology and talent, McAfee can expand its reach into new markets, secure new platforms and strengthen its hold as the leader in the security risk management market."
NitroSecurity, currently a McAfee partner, was the second dedicated SIEM firm to be purchased by an industry giant on this day. As reported earlier, IBM has made a similar play for analytics firm Q1 Labs. The deals, Infosecurity notes, are likely evidence of the importance of incorporating SIEM technology into the unified threat management (UTM) packages offered by enterprise security firms.
McAfee said it expects the deal to close in the fourth quarter of 2011, pending regulatory approvals. Once the deal is complete, the company said will incorporate NitroSecurity’s personnel into its Risk and Compliance business unit, led by McClure.
Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.
