The MITRE Corp. and the (ISC)2 Foundation are gearing up to recognize some of the nation’s up-and-coming science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) students: The high school and college teams who won the national Capture the Flag Competition last week.
Teams from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology came in the winners; runner-up teams include students from University of Washington and Thomas Jefferson High School.
The reception and awards ceremony, to take place Sept. 22, will include speakers from government, industry and academia, who will discuss the importance of building a cyber-talent pipeline to address the nation’s security needs.
Seventy-three teams (more than 300 students) participated in this year’s annual Capture the Flag Competition. During the event, students competed against their peers to complete cybersecurity challenges designed by notable industry and academic partners. Each member of the four-person winning teams will receive an (ISC)2 Foundation-sponsored $1,000 college scholarship, a voucher to take the (ISC)2 Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) exam, and priority consideration for MITRE’s Cybersecurity Intern Program.
MITRE’s Cyber Academy, the driving force behind the Capture the Flag competition, fosters education and collaboration among cyber professionals, government sponsors, and students by providing free training videos, courses and events.
