Physical security applications, like video surveillance and badge scanning, continue to migrate to the cloud, with 57% of respondents believing the cloud is a cyber-safe environment for these kinds of operations.
According to a study commissioned by Schneider Electric, 42% of respondents indicate that they already run security applications in the cloud, and almost half of companies (45%) said they are likely or extremely likely to transition these to the cloud in the future.
Out of those respondents, IT and technology professionals have the most confidence in the cybersecurity of the cloud (78%), followed by those working in education (70%), construction (68%) and financial services (52%). However, some skeptics remain, with 18% of respondents indicating they don’t trust the cloud at all.
“Leveraging the cloud for security applications is becoming increasingly accepted—and required—as we move into a 24/7 digital world,” said Steven Turney, security program manager, Schneider Electric. “Especially for companies where security management improvements are imminent, it makes sense to consider innovation at every level of their organization to meet their security needs. As businesses are required to be more agile, the cloud helps to unify and simplify security measures so an organization’s data, people and assets are constantly protected.”
More than half of respondents indicated that security systems aren’t where they should be in order to adopt such “emerging technologies” (54%)—for a range of different reasons. As for network security and cyber-concerns, these are on the radar for almost three-fourths of respondents. Other top barriers include organizational/administrative issues such as procedures, lack of perceived value and ROI. Also, 80% feel it is important to integrate security systems with other buildings and IT systems as part of an organization’s cloud strategy.
