The European ISACA Information Security and Risk Management Conference (ISRMC) will take place in the Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky and will feature industry luminaries such as Eugene Schultz, chief technology officer of Emagined Security, who will look at next-generational intrusion detection systems and solutions.
The aim of the conference is to build on and include the key elements of information security management practices, as well as and information security best practices. Plans call for the event to cover related business, programme and technical issues, as well as the impact of security risk management.
Also presenting at the conference will be Peter Wood, chief operating officer with pen testing specialist First Base Technologies, who will detail his experiences in penetration testing, along with Steve Orrin, director of security solutions with Intel, who will discuss virtualisation information security issues.
Plans call for Arno Kapteyn, a managing consultant with Capgemini, to examine IT security compliance issues, whilst John Pironti, chief information risk strategist at Archer Technologies - and a member of the ISACA Education Board - will detail his experiences in information risk management.
The jewel in the security crown for UK attendees at the event is likely to be the keynote given by Detective Superintendent Charlie McMurdie of the Metropolitan Police central electronic crime unit, the national UK e-crime project.
DS McMurdie is expected to focus on the growing threat posed by web fraud, and the critical resources that management on both sides of the public/private sector divide will need to defend against this escalating and often clandestine form of electronic theft.
Commenting on her planned presentation, DS McMurdie said that the increasing reliance that organisations place on email, instant messaging and Internet technologies has boosted business efficiency.
"But these electronic systems and services have also engendered a near-perfect environment for fraudsters to prosper from their illegal and unethical business", she said.
"The pervasive nature of the internet is, unfortunately, the ideal breeding ground for cybercrime", she added.
"I will explain the multi-faceted nature of the problem to conference attendees, as well as the strategies that can be used to counter this threat to business."
