RSA 2012: Cybersecurity certification groups form industry collaborative

The purpose of the Cybersecurity Credentials Collaborative (C3) is to provide a forum for collaboration among vendor-neutral information security and privacy and related IT disciplines certification bodies.

C3 will sponsor programs and activities to advance the craft and practice of certification program development and provide a forum to collaborate on matters of concern to the founding members.

Inaugural members of C3 include ASIS International, Computing Technology Industry Association, International Council of Electronic Commerce Consultants, Global Information Assurance Certification, International Association of Privacy Professionals, IEEE Computer Society, ISACA, (ISC)2, and the National Board of Information Security Examiners.

While voting membership in C3 is currently limited to founding organizations, any group involved in the training and credentialing of the cybersecurity workforce (vendor-neutral or vendor-specific) can participate in activities, said Rick Bauer, C3 chairman and director of product management and skills certification at CompTIA.

"By bringing these credentialing groups together under the C3 banner we can provide a more coherent and disciplined picture of cybersecurity certifications and the value these credentials deliver to individual workers and the organizations that employ them", Bauer said.
