Tim Rains has over 20 years of experience across multiple disciplines including management, engineering, product management, consulting, marketing communications, and business development roles. Currently Tim is the Cybersecurity & Compliance Leader for Europe, Middle East, and Africa for Amazon Web Services.
 
Tim served as Executive Director of Cyber Security Strategy at Las Vegas Sands Corp before joining Amazon. Prior to this Tim served as Global Chief Security Advisor on the Worldwide Enterprise Cybersecurity Group at Microsoft.
 
Previously Tim managed cybersecurity marketing and corporate communications as Director of the Trustworthy Computing division at Microsoft. His expertise ranges across security incident response (engineering and communications), threat intelligence, malware, security strategy, marketing, PR/AR. Tim served in several other roles at Microsoft in the past including Senior Program Manager on the Windows Networking team in Microsoft’s Core Operating Systems Division, and the Technical Lead on both Microsoft’s customer facing Security Incident Response team and Enterprise Networking team.
 
Tim has been a frequent speaker at industry conferences around the world including RSA conferences, Cloud Security Alliance Congress, ISACA’s World Congress Insights, SecTOR, Evanta CIO Executive Summit, the Milken Institute Global Summit and many others. Tim is a frequently interviewed and quoted spokesperson and security industry expert, who has done international and national broadcast television and radio interviews on major media outlets around the world. Tim was a contributor on Microsoft’s Official Cybersecurity Blog.
 
Tim attended executive management programs at Stanford and Kellogg business schools. Tim earned an MBA at Seattle University and a BA at the University of Alberta. Tim holds several technical certifications including CISSP, MCSE, and a two-year Computer Systems Technology diploma from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.
