The WannaCry ransomware outbreak took the world by storm and while the problem has not gone away, work by the cybersecurity industry to nullify the impact and Microsoft’s emergency patch has reduced the impact of the wormable threat.

In this one-off webinar, panellists will look at the failings that led to the ‘success’ of this ransomware infection, including:

  • The continued use of Windows XP
  • A lack of understanding on downloading rogue attachments
  • How a patch released in March caused a problem two months on
  • Failure to back-up data
  • Vulnerabilities in the critical national infrastructure
  • Governments holding undisclosed vulnerabilities

This webinar will analyse how WannaCry worked and how it was able to spread so fast around public and private sector networks.

This webinar will:

  • Consider the ethics and advantages/disadvantages of Governments holding undisclosed vulnerabilities
  • Offer advice on how to most effectively deal with a threat that the world is talking about
  • Consider whether we will see more wormable ransomware in future
  • Advise on preparedness for future incidents
