A challenge of being a managed security service provider (MSSP) is that your client communications are more frequently about your failures than your successes. The paradox is that when “nothing is going on” there is little to report; however, when there are adverse events, the client wants to be immediately informed.

While in cyber security no news is perceived as “good news,” in managed security services “no news” may be perceived as “no value.” As a result, managed security services providers often struggle with conveying the value that they provide to their clients. To avoid falling silent in the face of overwhelming success (i.e. nothing going on), you need quick, timely, frequent and cost-effective security operations metrics and reporting that does not overwhelm the client with technical jargon and statistics.
