Samsung appoints Wick Hill as IT security distributor

Samsung, a name better known for its PC and mobile phone offerings, has signed veteran value-added distributor Wick Hill to handle its IT security products in the UK.

The move means that Wick Hill resellers will soon be selling Samsung's OfficeServ and Ubigate ranges, which integrate fixed and mobile phone technologies, as well as voice and data connections, under an IT security umbrella.

Ian Kilpatrick, Wick Hill's chairman, told Infosecurity that the deal between the two companies has been in the planning stages for around six months and sees the effective covergence between IT security and
networking.

"There has been a convergence between voice and data in the last few years, and that trend is set to continue. Samsung's IT security products can meet that need, whilst at the same time helping to reduce
cost overheads and improve the overall efficiency of an organisation's IT security defences," he says.

Samsung's OfficeServ 7000 range allows staff to access their desktop and corporate applications, as well as voice capabilities, regardless of their location.

The family of systems runs on an IP-based communications platform, letting firms deploy fully unified telephony applications, secure data communications infrastructure and policy driven networks.

Samsung's Ubigate range of business gateways, meanwhile, supports multiple services in a single consolidated networking device.

The gateways are billed as providing tightly integrated facilities such as firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection, IP telephony, compression, caching and multicasting on a single IT security
platform.
