The security of the cryptography that makes much of our modern economy possible rests on the random numbers used for secret keys, public key generation, session identifiers, and many other purposes. The random number generator (RNG) is therefore a potential single point-of-failure in a secure system. But despite this critical importance, there continues to be difficulty in achieving high assurance random number generation in practice.
