While two-factor authentication is considered an effective security solution, traditional two-factor systems have been difficult to implement and administer, leading to limited adoption. One new approach is using any mobile phone (or landline) as the second authentication factor, which has been found to add a significant additional layer of security and can be set up in hours without the purchase of any hardware.

This white paper, provided by PhoneFactor, reports on the technical architecture of this system along with related security and deployment considerations. It also includes an overview of currently available two-factor authentication solutions.
