WatchGuard acquires BorderWare in private transaction

The acquisition of the Canadian company - which is perhaps best known for its email security gateways and allied systems - will bolster WatchGuard's range of security offerings, which currently include firewalls, virtual private networks and security appliances.

WatchGuard, which is also privately-owned, is best known for its Firebox firewall system, Infosecurity notes, so the acquisition of Toronto-based BorderWare will give it access to new threat management technology, as well as BorderWare's Canadian distribution channels.

Joe Wang, WatchGuard's CEO, said that the acquisition is complementary and will allow his company to accelerate on its vision of extending security solutions to protect corporate data, networks and applications.

"By acquiring BorderWare's... messaging, content security and innovative in-the-cloud security offerings, customers will now have a single source for comprehensive and complete security," he said.

WatchGuard noted that there will be no initial change in Borderware's customer support and channel programs.
