McAfee announces security tools for Apple Macs

Although the operating system has not been targeted by malware as much as Microsoft's Windows in the past, many in the security industry expect this to change as more businesses begin to use Apple Macs.

McAfee Internet Security is aimed at providing more secure internet browsing by protecting users from malicious websites, browser exploits and reporting whether financial websites are legitimate.

The software adds site ratings to the results of 22 online search engines, and includes a two-way firewall to monitor all incoming and outgoing data. It also uses malware scanning to block all known Windows and Mac viruses, spyware and adware.

McAfee Internet Security works with Mac OS 10.5 or later and is available in the UK, US, Canada, Australia, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Mexico, and Japan.

McAfee has also released Family Protection for Macs that allows parents to filter the content their children can view by blocking up to 35 different categories of content.

Parents can also configure instant alerts via e-mail or SMS if children try to access blocked sites as well as set time limits for browsing the Internet and review activity reports.

McAfee Family Protection is available for Mac OS 10.5 or later in the UK, US, and Australia.
