Information Security awards recognise honour excellence, leadership, and vision

Executive Alliance, provider of premium leadership recognition forums worldwide, has announced the winners of the Information Security Executive (ISE) and Project of the Year United Kingdom and Ireland Awards for 2008.

Taking place at the Le Meridien in Piccadilly, London on 22 October, the awards were given to deserving nominees for positive contributions to their organisations and outstanding accomplishments to the industry through risk management, data asset protection, regulatory compliance, privacy, and information security.

Dr. Paul G. Dorey, vice president of Digital Security and chief information security officer of BP, was awarded the ISE Executive of the Year Award. Dr. Dorey was recognised for his innovative process to meet standards for security practices at his global company and the major impact he has made to his business and the industry at large.

The other finalists for the Executive of the Year Award were global head of Information Risk Management at Barclays, Stephen Bonner and Andrew Yeomans, vice president of global information security at Dresdner Kleinwort Investment Bank.

Other nominees honoured for their outstanding contributions to the industry were Peter Erceg, vice president and head of information security and risk compliance at Visa Europe, Adrian Seccombe, chief information security officer and senior enterprise architect at Eli Lilly and Company, Peter Sommer, visiting professor of the information systems integrity group department of management at the London School of Economics, and Paul Wood, group business protection director of Aviva Plc

This year’s Project of the Year Award went to Barclays for The Risk! Our Information. Your Responsibility Project. Executive sponsor Stephen Bonner and his team of project specialists carried out a fresh, innovative, and humorous risk awareness campaign that included posters, e-banners, and a film that kept the attention of the viewer whilst delivering important messages that had been agreed across the business.

Executive sponsor Vladimir Jirasek, chief information security officer at DSG International, and his team of specialists were also recognised for their Vulnerability Scanning Project.

In addition to the awards, the nominees and project teams participated in the ISE United Kingdom and Ireland Executive Summit comprised of cutting-edge speakers and interactive discussions focused on business issues, best practices, and solutions.
