“Accumuli’s decision to divest the WSL business,” explained CEO Gavin Lyons, “will allow the company to focus on its core strategy and competencies.” These are primarily professional and managed services. “The scale and variety of threats continues to grow at a substantial pace and it’s our responsibility to bring together complementary technology solutions and expert services to safeguard our customers’ infrastructure and data.”
DDoS is one of those growing threats, and noticeably Accumuli will remain a reseller of Webscreen. The full complement of Webscreen staff will transfer, with the technology, to Juniper Networks. The technology was acquired rather than originally developed by Accumuli when it took over Boxing Orange in April 2011. It uses a behavior-based apprach to DDoS mitigation that can protect against both high-volume and APT attacks.
“With this acquisition,” commented David Koretz, vice president and general manager, “Juniper gains an advanced DDoS solution that will enhance Juniper’s data center security portfolio and enable us to offer customers a unique, fully automated DDoS protection system for websites and web applications.”
Accumuli sees its primary strength and purpose in providing security for clients, rather than developing security products. “The sale of WSL assets gives us substantial resources to continue growing our market share in the IT security sector by concentrating on what we are good at; identifying and being highly proficient in best of breed security technologies, expanding on our managed security services portfolio, building security intelligence platforms and creating complementary intellectual property along the way.”
