Chief Product Officer, Open Systems

As Chief Product Officer at Open Systems, Tom is responsible for driving the vision and development of our solutions -- overseeing product management, product marketing and engineering. With over 20 years of experience in cyber security, Tom has led security product teams at market leading companies including VMware and RSA. Tom joined Open Systems in August 2021 after serving as Senior Vice President in VMware's Security Business Unit.

At VMware, Tom pioneered the company’s Cloud Workload Protection technology, leading the product team that developed AppDefense -- now the core technology behind Carbon Black Workload. He was a leading architect of VMware’s overall security vision and strategy. And he served on the leadership team that acquired and later ran Carbon Black, a leader in the endpoint security market.

Prior to VMware, Tom held executive leadership roles at RSA Security, where he served as GM of the Data Security business, and Chief Strategy Officer of the division. Tom also held leadership roles at both Mazu Networks, a pioneer in DDoS prevention and Network Behavioral Detection solutions, and NextNine, a leader in Operational Technology (OT) security management software for industrial and critical infrastructure.

Tom earned his MBA at Harvard Business School and a BASc in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo.
