Check Point to offer ZoneAlarm Pro 2010 free on Patch Tuesday

This particular Tuesday is a major one, even in Microsoft patching terms, as the updates will handle 34 security vulnerabilities, eight of which are said to be serious.

Check Point's special offer is available on the main software landing page from 2pm UK time (6am Pacific) and runs for 24 hours.

According to a Check Point spokesperson, the security suite version available will be fully compatible with Windows 7, which is due to go on sale in the next few weeks.

"The package includes permission-based firewall controls, as well as advanced download protection which adds additional layers of detection for downloaded files, plus anti-phishing tools that helps guard against scams that steal your username, password, or bank account details", the Check Point spokesperson told Infosecurity.

"This is an excellent opportunity for Windows PC users to secure a copy of this popular IT security suite free of charge."

Check Point said that the defences within ZoneAlarm Pro 2010 will block attacks that anti-virus software on its own misses, making it the perfect add-on to the anti-virus protection consumers may already have.

"Online threats continue to expand dramatically, doubling in number every few months. Even browsing legitimate Web sites can expose consumers to hidden threats designed to compromise PCs and steal personal information", said Bari Abdul, Check Point's vice president of consumer sales.

"By offering Check Point ZoneAlarm Pro free for 24 hours, we are making our trusted firewall more widely available to consumers, helping protect their credit card numbers, social security information and any personal data against sophisticated threats."
