The anti-malware vendor said the updated software includes "easy remote locking and wiping of confidential data" if the phone is lost or stolen.
"Smart phones have become an integral part of corporate networks through common usage of virtual private networks and push-email solutions. They need to be secured as part of the company's IT infrastructure," said F-Secure.
The locking and data wiping technology is part of the new F-Secure Mobile Security 5 system, which already protects devices against mobile viruses.
The data lock technology kicks in when the SIM in a protected phone is changed. The software detects the change, sends the new SIM information to the phone's legitimate owner, and then locks the device, preventing further use. The owner also has an option to send an SMS message to the phone which will erase all of its data, preventing data theft.
The system, which ships in December, will also protect phones against malware designed to infect mobile phones. It includes a firewall, and a signature scanner that can be updated via SMS messages, concluded the company. It'll be available for the Symbian S60 platform before shipping for Windows Mobile in early 2009.
