GFI Software scoops up Sunbelt

GFI specializes in software products for the small and medium-sized market, but it is now making a play to provide a fortified email security offering by taking over the VIPRE product from Sunbelt.

According to a statement form GFI, Sunbelt’s separate software distribution business will be divested into a different organization with the option to be gobbled up by a separate buyer or seek another partnership. Other terms of the deal were not disclosed.

GFI also said that the acquisition of VIPRE will allow it to offer its own anti-virus product to customers, one with an established track record.

Walter Scott, CEO of GFI, said this purchase means his company has taken the reigns of a business with a steady, growing cash flow while helping GFI further its goal of product consolidation and growth.

“The technologies developed by both companies are highly complementary and I have a hard time imagining a better combination,” said Alex Eckelberry, CEO of Sunbelt Software. “Additionally, GFI and Sunbelt are rooted in similar business principles, with similar markets."
