Trend Micro intros SafeSync secure online backup technology

The service – which enters a crowded marketplace occupied by a number of resellers using Amazon Web Services and Iron Mountain's resources, as well as other services such as Dropbox - is designed to back up data from a users' PC, as well as allow that data to be synchronised with other machines.

This, says Trend Micro, results in superior organisation of data and removes the manual effort of moving files from one PC to another, which is not only time-consuming but subject to data loss.

Infosecurity notes that the service offers users a choice of a Mac or Windows client to `drive' the facility, or users can access via a web browser interface if they choose.

Announcing the new facility, which costs £44.95 a year, Rik Ferguson, Trend Micro's senior security advisor, said that security is not just about backup, but is about confidentiality, integrity and availability.

"With SafeSync we are helping you to backup your important data but also we are making sure that data is available to you securely whenever and wherever you want to access it. SafeSync has been designed to look after your synchronisation transparently, while you just get on with your life."

The SafeSync service is also available via Trend Micro's Titanium Maximum Security offering, which has a file limit of 10 GB, Infosecurity notes.
