PhoneFactor allows trade-in of two-factor security tokens

25 August 2009

Two-factor security vendor PhoneFactor is taking its clue from the CARS Cash for Clunkers rebate announcing a Cash for Security Clunkers program where organisations can trade in their security tokens for a phone authentication platform.

PhoneFactor’s program provides up to a US$3500 cash rebate for companies trading in their security tokens for PhoneFactor’s two-factor authentication where users log in with their username and password, but instead of using a security token, receive a phone call (to either landline or cell phone) to verify their identity.

The Cash for Security Clunkers program offers a US$1 cash rebate for every security token that is traded in for the PhoneFactor service. The two-factor security vendor said the tokens will be collected and destroyed within 90 days, and that the program is open until 30 September.
