PGP upgrades encryption and key management server porfolio

The server is designed to support different types of keys, trust models and applications, PGP said. Key features in version 3.0 include support for heterogeneous environments, integrating across over 30 operating system versions, and multi-protocol support. KMIP, OPAL, IEEE 1619.3, PKCS 11 are among those protocols supported. It also includes the ability to manage asymmetric, symmetric, and proprietary keys, and can handle provisioning and lifecycle management, including expiration dates and renewal. A generalized automation server, and wireless access are also included.

PGP also upgraded its Universal Server product, which is a central administration server for its encryption system. It includes support for more endpoint operating systems, including Ubuntu, Red Hat, and Apple's Snow Leopard with Boot Camp support. It will also let administators provide Encrypt and Sign buttons to PGP Desktop Mail users who need to demonstrate that they chose to sign something, for compliance reasons. Policy can now be enforced when users are offline.

The system features PGP's Hybrid Cryptographic Optimizer Technology, which the company says provides up to 40% faster performance.

Both systems begin shipping on March 3.
