Two cybersecurity posts filled by DHS

Roberta Stempfley, the former CIO for the Defense Information Systems Agency, has been tapped as the new head of the DHS National Cyber Security Division (NCSD), where she will oversee the division’s numerous cybersecurity roles. Stempfley will be responsible for the division’s comprehensive mission to protect critical infrastructure systems through private/public sector partnerships, in addition to management of the National Cyber Alert System, the nation’s subscription-based cyber incident notification portal.

In addition, the NCSD’s US Computer Emergency Response Team (US-CERT) will now have a permanent director, as Randy Vicker had the ‘acting director’ tag removed from his position. Vicker assumed the acting director role from Mischel Kwon last August, who departed for a post at RSA. US-CERT, the operational arm of NCSD, is responsible for defending and responding to incidents affecting the federal government’s .gov domain. The team also coordinates information on cybersecurity incidents from a number of sources, including academia, commercial vendors, state and local governments, and other federal agencies.
