The company's anti-malware laboratory, Panda Labs, released its Q1 2010 report this week, analyzing the IT security incidents for the first three months of the year. According to the report, viruses were the next most prevalent type of malware, at just over 15%, followed by adware, at 14%. Worms accounted for the bulk of the remainder, making up 8.7% of malware, with spyware fighting to break even half a percentage point, according to the company's figures.

"It would seem that the sale of details of users' internet habits is no longer of much interest in the world of stolen information," the report mused. In the 'others' category, which accounted for just 1% of the total, dialers, security risks, potentially unwanted programs, and hacking tools were to be found.

According to Panda Labs, a Spanish company, Spain was the country with the highest percentage of infections at around 35%. The US came in second at around 17%, followed by Mexico, Brazil, Italy, and Taiwan, all of whom comprised around 3–5% each. During the last quarter, Spain was 12% higher in its infections, Panda Labs said.

"The percentage of trojans in all countries is around the 50% mark, highlighting the preference among cyber criminals for this type of malware, primarily used for stealing information," the company said.
